Can you make an India looking coustum?

Im a girl. And for a school project im am to dress up like an India princess . (from the book Jahanara) I have silk Pj's and lots of fake old looking big jemded rings and stuff. But I would like to make a Sari . If I was to make a Sari how would I do it . Where could I get the fabric that looked indian. And would I be able to wrap it around me. Also if you have any other ideas on how to make this costum that would be amazing. Thanks so much! Please commit Im really in a need for help.

  1. Thank you all so much I feel so much more educated and im really enjoying the book it pretty good. Thank you all so much, I can not even tell you how much relived I am. I feel like a weight has been lifed of my sholder. Feel free to add more ! Thanks Again
  2. hey! im an indian and an EXPERT at indian clothing and fashion!if not a saree, you may want to try a ghagra choli which is more easier to imitate. go to a fabric store and get a cloth that looks like silk and has indiany flowery designs. then make a long skirt and a top that comes up to your waist.the top shouls be fairly tight-fitting and half sleeved. the blouse should curve with your body.this is how a short blouse shoudl look;

    then take a tranparent cloth and make a bun from your hair and pin the cloth to your bun.if you are looking for this type of gaghra.also try to immitate the jewlery in the pics! you can find them at indain stores for cheap imitations;

    then, make a shorter blouse!also for the jewlery; wear a bindi(red dot) in the middle of the forehead. make sure it is not big;then just wear TONS of bangles (7-8 inched should be coverd by them) and wear golden fancy eariings. try to wear anklets too!) for the dressed genelrally all indain dresses are flashy and bright colored! check out all the links I posted for some GREAT ideas on colors, designs, and jewlery!) also I think this dress would be VEEERY IMPRESSING AND BEAUTIFUL!

    GOOD LUCK!

  3. First of all I love the book Jahanra. it is very touching. Second of all, to wear a sari, take a bra and wrap cloth around it. Then wrap cloth around your shoulder, around your hips, and around your scalp. Then take a skirt that matches the fabric and wear it.

    PS (if your hips are big then have the fabric looser around there)

    PPS (If you are old enough and have big boobs, then let a bit of your bra show. : )

  5. I'd wear the pj bottoms (assuming they're full lengh, not shorts) with a fitted tshirt in the same colour or white. You should be able to find appropriate material at spotlight, or a similar large material shop, to make the sari side of it. You'll need approx. 5 and a half meters depending on your size. Had a quick look and found these instructions for wrapping a sari.
